Ebay postage

Hi guys,

Just a quick question regarding ebay. Someone in Australia has bid on two of my items. I offer free P&P within the UK and I was under the impression that as I didn't offer postage anywhere other than the UK, overseas buyers couldn't bid...where have I gone wrong?

Many thanks

Did you just say so in your listing description or actually change the options when you created the auction. If the former it doesn't stop anyone bidding.

You need to check your settings. If you haven't set them to UK only, anyone will be able to bid.

Shipping to Australia is no more difficult than sending to the UK unless it is something large or heavy, but you will need to put a customs form and airmail sticker on the package. Check with your local post office what is required.

If you have stated in the listing UK only, you could try contacting the buyer to explain and see if they will go for a mutual cancellation. If they refuse you will either have to ship or risk negative feedback.

You went wrong because you haven't excluded foreign bidders, just offering UK postage isn't enough.

You need to list with the no international postage/bidders bit disabled and also have your seller settings set to exclude buyers from countries you do not ship to.

If you really don't want to ship to Australia you can remove the bids if you want but I would send them an email saying why you are doing that.

If I was outside the UK and seen 'free p&p within the UK', it would make sense to me that I would have to pay for postage to whatever country I was in. Duh! :p lol

I would suggest getting a quote to send to Australia and email the customer stating that it is cost price you are charging, and ask him to confirm if he wants to proceed. If not, mutually cancel the transaction.

I have just spoken with live chat. Apparently it is a technical error. They have told me to cancel the bids and block the bidder.

The buyer actually emailed me with regards to another item I am selling. It was only then I realised they have bid on two of my items already.

The two items that they have bid on are small and light, but the third item weighs over 2000g and the Royal Mail won't give me a price.

I will just cancel and block as ebay instructed I suppose.
