Black Horse PPI Not very helpful

I wrote to black horse on an old loan settled in 2006, I dont have the agreement number etc, they wrote back saying this.

Dear Miss

Whilst we have made every effort to locate your agreement, we are unable to do so.

We regret that we are unable to assist you further. However if you can provide any new information regarding your agreement please do not hesitate to contact us.


I have just rang black horse again to be told they will not find it just by me supplying my old name and address and date of birth.

My credit report shows no agreement number and the advisor at black horse said I have to go to my bank and get the direct debit etc details and send them to black horse.

I dont remember which bank it was with, I explained them being a finance company they should be able to search for these settled agreements no problem. He put me on hold as I didnt agree with his advice on going to the bank and then I had to hang up as they were keeping me on too long.

What should I do now? I feel black horse replied too quickly, the other companies are taking longer.

I would think after 6 years their info would be well archived, if it exists at all now. So it's not as simple as just typing in a name and address.

If you want to go ahead with anything its now up to you to give them the information that they have asked for. If you can't then its not looking good.

What is it that you want to do. All you have mentioned is a loan

You need to do a subject access request for all info they hold on you. If you had any later loans, if they paid off earlier loans they will have the reference on them.

The ICO have made it clear to companies that they CANNOT insist on the consumer providing a reference number and that they should be able to recover data based on personal details.

I am currently still pushing black horse on one of our loans, they provided the docs for the others (and from what they said have documentation going back over 20 years).

Have a look for old credit records as I found one from about 2003 that actually had the reference numbers in full on it.

Black horse are well known for delaying and fobbing off tactics.

i had 4 different loans with blackhorse between 2000/2006 the loans was payed of early .But i have no paper work or anything. I have just spoken to a girl
who was on the telly and was told they CANNOT claim back anyfurther than 2008 with blackhorse is this wright tku.RAY

This would be the best approach from here, though approaching your bank if you manage to recall which bank it was would be useful as it often yields results.

Also I would imagine if the company are telling you they cannot find your details that this is the truth rather than any delaying tactics.

There is no limit on how far back you can claim though like the above the company may have difficulty finding information that is historic.

I have not bothered back with black horse but Time Retail Finance I wrote has come back addressee gone away so I have sent it on to the registered office.
The other letter has not come back yet and no reply so suspect that is addressee gone away too as Post office are pretty slow with these things.


I got my ppi back from northern rock, although they contacted me first saying I had had personal loans from them and that I could claim. The only one I could remember was an unsecured loan for a mortgage in 2001, sent them what I could remember and now I received a letter giving me £900 refund, with three account numbers - I rang them to ask what these accounts were and they couldnt confirm them at all because I didnt have the security details on those accounts. I explained to them that I did not know I was eligible to claim and that the mortgage was the only one I could remember and that they had told me to claim. Anyway eventually got put through to someone helpful who could tell me the total amount of the loan £2900 which then struck a chord with me and remembered it was my car loan in 2007 for mx5 which i settled in 2008.

I put in a claim with Black horse for 2 different loans one from 2001 and the other from 2002,I didn't have any paperwork or agreement numbers I just wrote a letter and provided as much info as I could,they sent me back copies of the agreements and a list of all payments made,so keep on at them because they obviously have this information somewhere.
