I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but it is driving me mad trying to get a straight answer out of Halifax.

My son (aged 2) had a regular saver with Halifax which recently matured and they changed into a young saver. As they do not allow you to open the childrens accounts online now, i went into branch and opened another regular saver for him on Monday. Since then i haven't been able to view either of my sons account when i log into my online banking - this has never been a problem before. I don't have a passbook or card for either the new regular saver or his young saver. On Monday I was told its a maintenance issue and it should show in a few days. Today i've been told the same by the online team. However, on their twitter account @askhalifax bank they have said that i won't be able to view his accounts at all as they aren't in my name?

I'm considering moving everything to another bank coz i don't think they know what they're doing and it doesn't instill me with confidence, not being able to see my sons money all of a sudden when i log in.

Yes, that is what happens now. It is because the new RS account is in the child's name now, so cannot be shown on your internet banking. I have the same problem.

The problem with older accounts you seem to have had answered elsewhere! I agree it is most unsatisfactory.

    We have had a similar experience with Halifax this week;

Accounts disappeared - telephoned Halifax to be informed there was a system glitch but accounts are still there and they were working to solve problem in next few days. Accounts still not there 5 days later - telephoned again but now informed they had been removed offline, when asked why we were not notified of this action, informed Halifax didn't have to tell us! What is the point of having online accounts to manage when they then take the decision to remove them and expect you to make the inconvenient journey into a branch. Talk about arrogant insensitive bankers and I thought the Halifax was part owned by the populace as we had to bail them out!!! Will be moving accounts from Halifax. This is what happens when they become too big and corporate, customer service deteriorates.

I just went online to check my daughters savings on my online banking and noticed it had vanished! I only pay a small amount every month but wanted to check how much was in there.
So I came to MSE to check whats going on, how can I close this account now? I don't really want to have an account that I have to go into the branch to enquire about.

    Thanks :)

You walk into a branch and say "please close this account".

Very last century. Even if you did waste time by going into a branch and queue up, they probably wouldn't know how to close an account. And why should you have to do that for an ONLINE account. I've tried unsuccessfully to close a Halifax account a couple of times now. I've several redundant accounts just gathering dust now.

It used to be simple to close an account with the click of a button on HBOS's online banking - not possible any longer. As well as not being able to see childrens accounts, you can't even open a joint savings account online any longer. Halifax steadily go backwards as everybody else moves forwards.

Another un happy Halifax customer here.

Why couldn't they just leave it along.

Yes the accounts are branch based, but having online access was a much better way to see the accounts.

Really frustrating as the only other decent childs account Northern Rock doesn't have web access to the account either.

Nationwide is the only other one which does give online access, but then the interest rate is only 0.75%.

Just found a Lloyds TSB Young Saver at 3%.

Anyone know if this account can be seen on online banking?

It's quite annoying. You used to be able to the view the regular saver online before Halifax merged with LTSB.

Not online. Its in the childs name and you just get a paying in book (cheque book style),postal statements arrive quarterly.
