Can't get rid of my Santander account

Six month ago after years of good service from Abbey National the transfer to Santander was so bad and the service so poor I decided to part with them.

I was told by telephone banking to go down to my nearest branch and to ask for my account to get closed.

So I did (stood in the queue for 15 minutes as well).
Handed the lady my card and cheque books and we said bye bye.

Since than I still get monthly statements, so went over again and to the branch (twice) and stood in the long queue (again) asking what's the hell is going on?! The lady said on her system it is showing as closed but she will make sure no statements will be send.

Roll over to this week and still I get statements, called telephone banking, they are very cold and not very helpful saying: sir you account is still open, please go down to your nearest Santander branch to have it closed, I went twice was my reply, sir we can't do anything, good bye.

So, how the hell do you get rid of this account? I tried calling the complaints department but they say I didn't pass their security as they see a different address attached to my account and so can't even start helping me. What did I ever do to these people that they hate me so much?

My current account with NatWest is so much better (you don't even have to go to the branch for every little pips).

Write a letter headed in bold COMPLAINT stating what you have stated here and insist that the account is closed. Give it 8 weeks and if not completed to your satisfaction escalate to the FOS. Don't lose any sleepover it.

Yeh natwest are really good at the moment, they aren't having any issues.

Visit branch one more time and ask to speak to a PBA. Sounds like u may have a pending charge, is the statement showing negative balance? If so ask the member of staff to do a 'deferred closure' or sgo 14 and they'll close it. Don't forget id...

Don't know if you have access to online banking, but I had a historic account from either Abbey National or Alliance & Leicester (I had both, no idea which this one was originally) which appeared on there.

I simply sent them a secure message online to close it, manually transferred the 13p that was in it to another account and it was gone within a week, they sent me an email and letter confirming.

When my Preferred Current Account anniversary rate dropped off, I sent them a letter requesting closure and it was done in about a week.

    Thanks, good advice.
I kept the login details for the online facility and now did exactly this. Now holding fingers as this bank can't arrange a pis sup in a brewery.

    Update:

30/07 have a secure message from the bank saying they requested closure. Hoora.
