lost bank acoount

about 2 years ago i applied for a ccg for 2 items and was awarded a little amount for one thing i wanted but not the other..
i put in an appeal but never heard anything back
a year later i applied again for the other item but was told i had been awrded money for the item last year..
all i can think is that the appeal was succesfull and the money for the other item was put into my old bank account{i did write to them at the time saying if appeal succesfull that i have a new bank account of which i gave them details].
i went to bank today and asked about my old bank account and they told me they cannot find it so it must have been closed .
i also done the online bank search thing and they said they cannot find any old bank account in my name.
so if there was money in there belonging to me then it looks like i have lost it
when my friend did not use their bank account for a while the bank closed it but sent them a cheque for 43pence what was owed but with natwest it was just closed with no letter or anything...i am still living at same adress
i wondered why it has disapeared without a trace..thanks

I think you need to re write it as it doesnt make much sense....
    For everthing else there's mastercard.

You'll need to tell me at least what a CCG is, I can't find anything that seems to fit that acronym in this context.

What bank was the missing account with? There's a mention of NatWest but it's not clear whether that's the bank in this case. If it is NatWest then there is no way under normal circumstances that there will be no record of an account if it was still in use 2 years ago.

Do you still have any details of the account, maybe from old cheque books or statements, that would confirm the account did exist? If so, write to the bank insisting that they find it, and if they fail use their complaints process.

You mention "the online bank search thing". If that isn't http://www.mylostaccount.org.uk/ then I suggest you give that a try.
  • sorry . it is a community care grant

Thanks for the info on the CCG and for confirming that it is NatWest. Do you have any evidence that the account existed - statements, cheque book, etc? Presumably you also have some evidence that the CCG was paid into that account.

You need to go back to NatWest with whatever evidence you have and make them look harder, even if the account was closed 4 years ago there will still be information there, although it might not be easily available to branch staff. And if the CCG payment was made after the account was closed then it may well be sitting in a suspense account waiting for someone to claim it.

Just a thought in passing, but why not contact the people who paid you the amount under the CCG, they should have a record of where it was sent to including any reference numbers. If they can tell you it was paid, they should be able to tell you details.
