Just us and a Baby - train travel - Railcard

Hi, bi monthly need to make a journey from brighton to llandudno Junction - this requires 3 trains (including a virgin service) so thats 6 times a year minimum - there is two adults and our 4 week old, we did have a railcard -
(a young persons) but its just expired the family railcard only covers a child from 5 years so really is there a work around is what I'm asking? What's the best way to save cash, we already book a month or months in advance.

You can buy a child ticket for the 4 week old.
If the only child in the Family & Friends Railcard group is aged less than five years of age, the Railcard holder must purchase a discounted ticket for that child in order for the accompanying adult(s) to qualify for the discount on their tickets.
    Railcard

And you only need 1 F&F railcard for the two of you.

I see then the overall saving would be greater, plus, If anyone got funny about taking up a seat I can legitimately say "she has a ticket" :D

Thank you for your help, a more careful reading of the T&C's would have answered my own question. Doh!

    £100 basic fare, 2 adult and 1 <5 child.

    With 1 YP railcard
    1 x £100
    1 x £66
    1 x free child. Total £166

    With F&F railcard
    2 x £66
    1 x child (60% off £50 half fare) £20. Total £152

So not much in it - and will vary according to time/route. However unlike YP railcard there's no minimum fare before 10am. There is a morning peak restriction but only in London and SE. And your F&F railcard is good for 4 adults, 4 paying children, and 2 free children per adult.

If you buy the railcard online you get free YHA membership - check the website for other offers too.

Family railcard is valid for all journeys in UK Family and friends £28
All kids under five travel free - and each adult may take up to two 'under fives' with them. However, if the only child in the group is under five, you'll need to purchase a discounted child ticket to qualify for the adult Railcard discount. All child fares are subject to a £1 minimum fare.

Up to 4 adults and kid under 5 qualifies
33% off simples! Valid on all tickets types includes advance

So two adults and child under 5yrs, 33% 0ff ALL tickets for £28 per year

Not true. See post #4 above; it is not valid for journeys wholly within the South East 'Network Area' until the Off Peak fare is valid.

Also does not include NI Railways.
