I can assure you that it is not a ploy to get you to call in.
What posters above have said is true, It is also a higher risk for customers hold cards with limits they are realistically never going to use. What happens if your card gets cloned, or someone steals the details and uses the card for thousands of pounds worth of transactions. Because it is a credit card the bank will then be liable to reimburse that fraud.
I don't understand why you can be mad when they are telling you you can opt out?0
