I assume I need to sign a contract for the house I am selling and both me and my wife have to sign for the one we are buying (in joint names) - right? Likewise my buyer has to sign for buying my house and my vendor has to sign to sell. Are these things all done separately with the respective solicitors and when all done the solicitors contact each other to say they are signed?
Just trying to work out what is happening with my transactions as we all agreed a completion date of middle of august and were trying to exchange by end of this week as my vendor goes on holiday, but still waiting for a question to be answered by vendors solicitor and so nothing signed by me yet.

Your conveyancing solicitor isn't earning his/her money if he/she isn't telling you the answer to this.
Essentially you are absolutely correct though. Thats is how it works. The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits. - Einstein0 -
Yes, everyoneone signs their respective contracts and gives them to their solicitors.
Once the solicitors have the contracts, and everyone has agreed a Completion date, and all searches etc are completed, the solicitors ring each other and agree "Exchange" on the phone.
They then date the contracts and post them to each other.0
