Sounds about right - They pay a lot of money (more than the actual child) for CTC to low wages hence what appears to be large drop.

Presumably the child will be starting work soon & paying board... £30 a week sounds a good starting price.

Yes, if you're single, as you lose the "lone parent" element.

thankyou for your replies, i am single and work 32 hours a week, h has a provisional job off of 2 days aweek starting in a month that he wants to take as he doesnt want to sign on, so wont be able to contribute very much, i had a look to see if he qualifies to get any tax credits but doesnt as he is too young

16 hours at NMW is around £80 which is about twice JSA so he should be able to pay at least £30 for his keep and hopefully he may be able to find some other part time work alongside this. He may not want to sign on but by not doing so he's put himself in the position where he's still reliant on you for money, although you no longer receive benefits for him.

he is still going to look for other work and try and find something full time, the garage that has offered the job say if more hours come up then they are his, he went to sign on but they said while i am still getting tax credits for him he cant understandably, he has to wait till we get notified i no longer get them, I am assuming that the last payment I will get is this week

So he would be able to sign on next week for a month and bring some money in.

  • Hi Hun,

I take it you are claiming the 30 hour week element?

He wont be entitled to anything from tax credits sadly as you have to be 25 I think to make a claim for working tax credits
