I was overpaid last year by the tax credits by just under £3000, the money was desperatly needed and got the family out of a very tight spot,
it will need paying back but is there a limit of how much they can take per week/month?
Has anyone been in this situation please?

I was in that position years ago and they take it back out of future awards til it's paid back. Did you know you would get an overpayment?0

No it was an error on a cross over payment when i split with my hubby. Just wondering how much they can take per week/month as we are already streched money wise.Don't judge a book by its cover, something's are not always as they seem...0

You can pay it back over 12 months but if you can't afford that you can ask them to spread it over a longer period, which they'll probably allow.0

My overpayment is 1/2 yours. We no longer qualify for CTC/WTC so no reward to claw the money back from.
I am paying it back £50, finishing Feb 15. (This will be cleared in March thou once my bonus is paid) At no point was my expendature explored or told that there was a 12 month time frame. This was 3 weeks ago.2013 wins: Persil Bunny0 -

How did you arrive at the £50 a month amount? I'm in a similar situation and really upset that they kept paying me since an overpayment in 2009. Am thinking that £50 could be a suitable amount if there is no other option (i.e. once I have fully disputed & got further advice from CAB). wanting to look at all options at the mo. Thanks0

Read the link that Pmlindyloo posted above you, it is all in there, the percentages taken etc.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0
