My local gym is increasing its prices next month and has just put up a sign on reception stating prices will increase. I know there will be lots of people with memberships that won't come to the centre over the summer and therefore won't see the sign.
I understand they have to notify you in advance if the subscription is going up, but do they have to ensure you get notified (eg by sending a letter / email)?

Not sure what your specific problem is. YOU know the price is going to increase, if people choose not to come to the gym and still pay its there problem not yours.
Its up to the gym to notify customers of a price increase, im sure it will state in the Terms and conditions they can increase the price without notice or something to cover them.0 -
they sould inform all customers of the price increase with some notice if it is in there t&c's. Its always good practice to keep the customers informed about direct debit increase's so they cant come in saying I have just gone over drawn because you did not inform me0

pcombo - you are right, it isn't a problem for me, I was asking out of curiosity.
The DD guarantee states that you have to "notify" customers of increases in priace, but I can't find any detail anywhere online what format this notification must be in.
It is just out of curiosity and I wondered if anyone on here had any experience / knowledge of this.0 -
Interesting thread. Usually any changes to a direct debit are informed in writing (email or letter), but I can't find anything with a quick search that mandates that changes must be informed in writing.0

I'd be concerned that prices are going up, lets face it inflation is low and not many people have had pay rises. How much is the price rise?0

When David Lloyds increased mine, I was informed in writing.
I don't remember seeing anything in the reception area about the increase.0 -
The rise is c.3%. It is not a major chain gym, just a local one. The prices are low compared to other facilities nearby and haven't been increased in a long time.
However, I'm trying to see if anyone can shed any light on the format the notification should be in.
As bod1467 has also found, doing an online search reveals no information about this.0
