I agree with you, QuietCorday. It is utterly rediculous that you have to jump though all sorts of hoops to prove your identity when you want to invest money, yet if you want to borrow it some types of lending evidently require none.
And why should the onus be on an honest person to clear their name? If thorough checks were made by companies that extend credit or give loans before lending both they and people who have been fraud victims would be better off.
Maybe there should be automatic compensation awarded to fraud victims to be paid by these companies - then we'd see them putting proper procedures in place!0 -
Quietcorday,
I fully sympathise with you. I've had exactly the same happen to me. 'My' account with Next is still on going 6 months down the line, Haven't lived at my old address for 16 months and they even have my DOB wrong on the account.
I've got to the point where if it's not resolved in 1 week I'm appointing a solicitor to sort it out for me. The account I apparently owe is less then £200!0 -

I think a solicitor will want a real money and a lot. And s/he will be unlikely to recover it from Next.
Have you exhausted their formal complaints procedure?
If so, you can complain to FOS:Financial Complaints – Where complaints related to the consumer credit offer are not resolved to the customer’s satisfaction the customer may have the right to refer their complaint, in writing, to the Financial Ombudsman Service, for independent investigation.0 -
Hi QuietCorday
I think you should follow their complaints procedure - i.e send your letter of complaint to their complaints department, rather than the ceo. Otherwise you may have problems escalating it to the FOS later.
In your position, I would send a complaint letter putting them on notice, something like:
"You have entered incorrect information on my credit file. Please remove the information immediately. I am applying for a mortgage. If you do not remove the incorrect information, and it impacts my mortgage application, I will make a damages claim against you for my consequential losses."0 -
Quietcorday.........I fully sympathise with you.Hi QuietCorday.........In your position, I would send a complaint letter.........
mr_happy and eddddy, haven't you noticed, QuietCorday has been quiet and hasn't posted here for almost two years.
The matter will be solved by now.0
