in Credit cards
Hi!
This is my first post on the forum but have been lurking about for ages. I've been trying to order stuff off the internet from America recently but none of them take any of my Maestro debit cards!
I need a Visa type card to make the occasional small purchase, I've never had a credit card before, can anyone reccomend the best type of card to get for this type of thing?!
Thanks again!
James

Or try Student Barclaycard or Barclaycard Initial. You can also try CapitalOne Classic or AQUA card...01. Marriott Rewards VISA (£2700 @ 17.9%)
02. HSBC MasterCard (£2250 @ 14.9%)
03. HALIFAX One MasterCard (£2200 @ 12.9%)
04. Monument VISA (£1000 @ 19.9%)
05. Aqua MasterCard (£500 @ 29.9%)0 -
Ask your bank whether you'd qualify for a credit card - either a MasterCard or a Visa credit card would be fine for ordering over the net...0

When i started uni as a student 3 years ago, i was fortunate enough to qualify for the Nationwide 1% cash back credit card at the time (probably because i had a nationwide debit card). Those were the days, 1% back on ALL spending, even overseas transactions. Unfortunately, no longer.
If you are travelling or making overseas purchases, you are probably better off applying for a nationwide current account with a visa debit card.
IMHO, your best bet is the Egg Money card, which is a Mastercard.... they can start you off on a £500 limit and you'll get 1% cash back too! Plus, it can kinda double up as an extra current account when used with a positive balance. Its okay to put "student" when applying, ideally select "living with parents" on the form if you are on the electoral roll at home, even if you are renting... you will score more "points" on the application form to qualify for a card. Include any student loans in your income.0
