Is JSA Backdated after Approval?

Hello,
I've been for my first interview today with the Job Centre after graduating and the man said it would be 2-3 weeks more before I hear if I'm successful or not. I have to sign on between now and then and I was wondering if the claim is approved, would it be backdated?
I'm very worried at the moment as I have literally no money (can't borrow from friends or family - they are all skint as well). If the claim would be backdated I might be able to survive on a credit card and pay it off or beg my bank for an overdraft (student one runs out this month) but my lease is up in four weeks and I can't find anywhere else to live while I can't pay a deposit and can't move back home with my parents.
Hopefully I'll find a job soon (applying for 50+ each week) but was wondering if it would get backdated or if there was any way to get money so that I could travel to interviews / pay bills / eat something.

JSA isn't paid for the first 3 days, you will get from the 4th day. Once your claim is processed it is paid fortnightly in arrears. You can also claim LHA and council tax benefit.0
