Hi everyone! This is my first post here, although I am a longtime lurker lol
I am after some advice on buying a laptop which needs to be perfectly capable for gaming, I was looking at alienware laptops which are very snazzy, but also quite expensive. =\ I was looking specifically at the M17x R3 which comes out at about £1100 before discount codes, but decided to have a browse before splurging.
I then found a website called Novatech which seem to have a few gaming models, but as I'm someone who doesn't quite understand all the different processors and graphics cards (I just want it to do what I want it to heehee!) I was wondering if anyone could help me, or if anyone even knows of any alternative models? I want it for under £1000 ideally, someone suggested ASUS to me which I know are good, but I found their gaming models are around the £1500 mark on amazon ._.
Please help a techienoob in her moment on of need, you're my only hope =(

is there any specific need for it to be a laptop instead of a desktop, as gaming and laptop do not go together well,
for exmaple gaming requires a high powered graphics chipset, which in turn requires lots of power, which in turn means very low battery life (usually around 1 hour or less of full gaming on a tipical gaming laptop) or having to have it plugged in all the time and therefore meaning not very portable.
also gaming required higher powered parts which produce more heat, meaning it cant really sit on your lap because of the heat,
and as you have found out tend to be high priced for lower power parts than in a desktop.
if you do have need for a laptop we can advise however just wanting to make sure you are aware of some of the limitations of gaming laptops
also what games are you wanting to play because you might not need a £1k system depending on the games you are wanting to playDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
I simply don't have room for a desktop unfortunately, and I also need it to be portable (though it doesn't have to be really light) as I travel back and forth also. =(
& currently I mostly play mmorpgs on it due to my current laptop not being a high enough spec I've always chosen console gaming over it lol
I've started looking again at the alienware m14x, wondering if I really need to go all overkill on spec really, I really just want something that's going to last for a while and not be obsolete again in the next few months =(0 -
thats fair enough, ok as to gaming laptop the dell is ok little bit small screen and i think you can probably get slightly better for the £800 base spec something liek this http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/Xplorer_X6-7400_Notebook/Drop a brand challenge

I got a Medion last September and have been very happy with it.
Mine has an I5 processor, 4GB of ram and it has a GT540m graphics card in it, which plays all games I have tried on it at Medium to high at 1920*1080
This one has an I7, 8GB memory and a GT650m graphics processor, which I would imagine would cope with most games at high settings, with possibly one of two compromises.
It comes with seperate onboard graphics, so you can switch between the two, a full HD display, blu-ray, USB3, latest bluetooth and Dolby sound. For the price it can't be beaten at the moment IMO.

Do not buy an alienware laptop, you will regret it in the future when you realise that it was way way overpriced.
The Cyberpower one linked above is not bad however this one is close to your £1000 budget just slightly over and will play any game at mid/high

I have an X6-9200 from this same company. Very nice and works well. The model linked looks a better spec than what I bought back in January, and looks pretty good value.0
