Transferring large sum of money

Hello, I wasn't sure really where to put this post so i hope I'm not annoying anybody!! I'm living in the UK at the moment and we're getting married back in our hometown in Ireland. Basically we will want to transfer our savings here to my other bank account in Ireland [Bank Of Ireland]. I've done it before with our bank but not with such an amount! [10k]. It's not that we don't trust the bank it's just that we're worried in case there's some sort of delay and with it being such a large amount will the bank charge a huge amount to do it or is there some specialist outlets out there who do this type of thing? I know we could just send a chunk now and a chunk later but we're just afraid

Any advice would be great thanks :money:

Can you not just transfer online? why do you think the bank would charge for transfering money? Maybe I am very naive but I don't think I have ever been charged just to transfer 10k to another account:confused:

well i know It's something like £27 that RBS charge for transferring money to a Euro account. I'm not sure if I can transfer online with such an amount unless I set up a paypal account for my Irish bank account? hmmmmmm *ponder*

Smile charge £8 for foreign transfers - I've just sent a payment to Spain via them
What I'd be cautious of is the exchange rate you get - I'm sure there's specialists that do this best but I can't remember any ATM

Yeah that's another thing I'm afraid of, who sets that? I know it fluctuates but XE always tell me it'll be worth around 15400 in euro but I know that's not what I'll get. Any way of 'fixing' this rate?

I'll take it for you and pay it into any bank in Ireland, no charge. ;)

Hifx are the people you want. Their rate will be something like market rate less 1 to 1.5%. And they guarantee to refund any bank charges you may incur. They'll give you a quote over the phone. Then you can check with this site...
