I did, not quite sure why I needed to send two copies but that's done!
The 2 copies is considered a "belt and braces" approach and if there was ever a dispute about notice or any other correspondence between LL and tenant, 2 copies would give you a lot more sway in court.
Just suppose there was some freak event - fire in the post office, PO van involved in an accident, Postie mugged on his round and bag stolen etc, then the 1st copy might go astray, but you are not likely to be so unlucky that the 2nd one would suffer a similar fate.0 -
we haven't signed anything since last May and that was only for six months.
So you are still within that fixed term?
As I understand it you are free to leave the property on or before the last day of that fixed term without giving further notice, you are required to pay the full rent for the whole of the term0 -
No, it was May last year, we've been "out of contract" since November 2011.
We've been waiting for the landlord to pop round with a new one since just before Xmas, we've not heard a word from him this year!0 -

If you send it 1st class it then presumably if you send the letters on the same day it would be delivered the next day, meaning postie getting mugged would mean both letters would not be delivered. Of course the LL would need evidence of this if he uses it as a reason he hadnt received either letter.
I think its more to do with the "human error" of the mail being mis-delivered and the fact that its highly unlikely that the postie would not deliver correctly 2 items of mail, than maybe 1 which could for whatever unlikely reason go astray.0 -
