Thanks again, glad I asked the initial question, this thread has been very insightful.
Like you say a manager in a different teritory doesn't always prove their worth. I am in small, so I am riding it out, however not throwing any more money that way at present. I bet your brother is sick, even if he is very wealthy that is a lot of money to be down on.
Will have a look at Em debt, interesting, but may steer clear until I know more about these as I have been stung by what I thought was research and it hasn't stacked up to date!
With regards to Natural resources, I have been watching First State for awhile now, tempted to dip my toe in, once again this would be a small lump sum. My big thing this financial year has been ITs - have a small number now & I'm dripping in small amounts / month on share plans, out of my ISA wrapper, just a little spare cash I have after the bills each month.0 -
I was looking in to the investec EM local currency debt fund but like you said srcandas it has performed extremely well in the past and that makes me wary of buying in now, although there is no reason why it shouldn’t carry on performing.0

Unfortunately, unlike shares, bond investments cant continue rising at a high rate over an extended period. Bonds pay interest at a fixed rate until a maturity date at which point they are redeemed for their face value. That means that there is a maximum bond price equal to its redemption value and all future interest payments beyond which you will never recoup your initial investment. So I believe you are right to be wary.0
