Reservations on credit card

Hi - On monday I ordered some goods (spa chemicals but that's irrelevant), they didn't have the item I ordered in stock, so cancelled my order.

On Tuesday I got my card refused (Aqua but I'm not sure that's relevant either). My available credit was £72 lower than I expected and my card was maxed out - this is exactly the amount of my cancelled order.

Weds I have chceked on-line and it's the same situation.
It seems that although the payment was ABORTED, that the £72 is still reserved on my card.
Any idea when this will drop off as I can't use my card at the moment.

I am not calling Aqua at the moment as I am trying to minimise the costs of this debacle and not make loads of phone calls.

Anyone know how long these things stay on if the payment was "ABORTED". I am not sure what that means but the poolstore company have shown me their log and that's what it says.

    It's a dark art.

I get this with hotels a lot (because the CC I use on checkout is not the one I present at checkin). The longest period has been 2 weeks. But more normal is 2 to 5 days.

    Thanks for the re-assurance.
It's a bit annoying because I had to buy the chemicals elsewhere so that amount is now taken from my limit twice for the time being.

It is possible to get it removed, both the issuer and the merchant can remove it but it will be a struggle and both will pretty much bounce you between each other or not know what you're talking about.

    Thanks for the info.
It's not desperate, just an inconvenience.
Spending loads of money on calls won't improve my disposition :-)

As you are so close the limit, can you not ask them to raise the credit limit by, say, £100?
