in Credit cards
I have been really ill the last 2 years and in and out of hospital, I have had a lot of thefts from junkie neighbour who has been applying for credit in my name.
I recently have been harassed by this company about alleged "arrears" turns out someone had spent my entire card limit of £500 and as I only get 1 statement every 3 months and in hospital often didnt know.
They keep ringing and hanging up and on the rare chance they answer they speak broken English and get confused when I try and explain.
What can I do?

Write to them. Explain the situation and your circumstances.
They'll then investigate and will likely ask you for further information.
This was an account you opened was it? Did you not keep the card with you? do you have the card in your possession now? Have you checked through all the statements to see what type of transactions have been made?
Does your neighbour have access to your mail? If he has managed to use your card then the credit card provider will likely have a record of a new card being ordered, or a new pin etc.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Its a shared letter box and over a year period had birthday cards stolen(loads of them) christmas cards, about £400 in Ebay/Amazon parcels, a bank card and pin for another bank, benefit award letters, even a benefit giro, and had store cards opened in my name, blockbuster accounts etc.
From what I gathered, a new card was sent as the old one expired(I never used card so did not know) and then activated but the person gave the correct details i.e town of birth and my mobile number(which are easy to find)
All the transactions are to online take aways and one or two paypal.
The store card was used to order clothes to my junkie neighbours flat(In my name though) but noticed parcels from same company have been coming in his landlords name, ex tenants names all to his flat.0 -
If you expect to continue to live there I would consider a CIFAS protective registration. It costs £14 for a year but makes it much harder for anyone to open credit in your name.
I'd also suggest getting copies of your credit files to see if there are other accounts in your name you are unaware of.
Have you been in touch with the police at all yet over any of this? Its one thing the credit card company will usually ask.
Have you considered other options for your mail? a locked secure post box outside your property perhaps? collecting from the post office?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Well the police were only bothered about the stolen giro and told me nothing else.
My landlord refuses to let me put a post box on the property etc, I have thought about collecting from post office but as I am sick so often I never get round to it.0
