Loft conversions in Berkshire/Hampshire/Surrey

Has anybody in Berkshire/Hampshire/Surrey had a loft conversion done recently, and if so can you recommend a company?

We had one company in mind to do the work but they're being a bit sluggish with responding to emails and calls, and so we're looking for alternatives.

We have had confirmation from the council that the work will not require planning permission (i.e. comes under "Permitted Development"), and so we are looking initially for a designer - although I know that there are companies that have an "all in one" conversion service.

    Nobody then?

We are looking at getting a quote from Charles Grosvenor - their website looks good and of course their testimonials are glowing, but I have no idea if they're actually any good.

I’m currently in the process of getting builder recommendations from my friends for the same area.

So far someone has recommended someone from the Berkshire area and looking at their website they seem to do loft conversions.

Where you happy with Econoloft? Their website looks good.

I have got an appointment booked with Charles Grosvenor, and they have sent us a very impressive glossy brochure.

I am thinking of having a loft conversion with econoloft. Their quote came out 6K less than the other quote I got and they seem to get good reviews on the mumsnet website.

    Good luck with it all.:)

We have got Econoloft coming round on Friday. I'm slightly put off by their name - "Econo" just sounds to me like "cheap and shoddy", but we'll see...

We have now had two companies come round to give us a quote for a rear dormer and a hipped side dormer. However, they had a differing opinion of whether there would be enough standing room in the hipped dormer for a shower. One said there would be and another said there wouldn't. We are struggling a bit for headheight (approx 2.1 metres). What is the best way to judge which viewpoint is correct? Or won't we really know until the full plans are drawn up?
