Redundancy & Tax Credits HELP NEEDED

Hello,
I have been made redundant from work, I live with my partner and our 3 year old daughter in a mortgaged house. We have not been receiving tax credits for a while but as this is a major change in circumstance i have just called and asked for an in year calculation sheet. I told them that my earnings from last year was £12453 and my partners £23000 (including ALL overtime). I then said that mine for this year would be £3380.52 as I have been made redundant. My partners would either be the same or more than likely less as he did all the overtime he could last year. I was told that with the household income being more than £26k we wouldnt be entitled to anything, the adviser then said on the phone that he would drop my partners to £20k which would mean our household income would be £23k - he then said even at this we wouldnt be entitled to anything. I have no idea how we are going to pay the mortgage, i have a car on HP, my partner has loans, I have catalogues (stupid of me I know), food, gas, electric, council tax etc. Please can someone advise me on what to do as i am at a total loss
