Thanks for that, I've got The Wombles theme tune in my head for the rest of the day then!0 -
Get the tube. Will be FAR FAR quicker and cheaper
I live in Tooting, quite close to Wimbledon - a cab will cost £40ish, and at that time, will take over an hour.0 -

I work in Whitehall. Having seen the chaos caused by the "Games Lanes" expect it to take longer and cost more than the above (which is quite accurate for normal ie non-Games times).0 -
I would honestly suggest tubing/railing it up to Wimbledon. (Victoria line to Vauxhall - probably about 5 minutes, change to National Rail, I think platform 8 and two stops down - another 10 minutes). That's 15 minutes and give another 10 minutes for walking/route-finding. No more than 25 minutes and you're in Wimbledon. (alternatively, the district line takes you straight there in 30 minutes - a bit of a pain though because of all the stops).
Cab will be much more expensive and looking at the roads, it will probably take around an hour to drive there.
I would seriously suggest staying off the roads, saving your money and using public transport instead. You've got a quick route and an easy route and I would much rather take one of those two than paying an exorbitant price for a taxi just to get stuck in traffic!0 -

Agreed. Or national rail from Victoria, changing at Clapham Junction
12 trains an hour using only national rail, no wait for the first train greater than 9 minutes, or about 20 choices an hour using tube and/or national rail0 -
Thanks everyone - it's so useful to have local knowledge! The route planner on the Olympics website makes it look like a nightmare journey with multiple changes and I hate getting on buses when I don't know where I am because it can be hard to know when it's your stop. But I think if we can just get on the Tube to Southfields and walk the rest we'll be fine.0

The Tube has brilliant signposting at every possible stop. Watch out for pink signs pointing to every venue - you really won't be able to go wrong.0 -
on the TFL website you can go options and deselect bus, so it finds you routes without using buses.
I am personally getting the train down to Wimbledon, don't want to do the tubes, besides a short bus ride to the train station at my end and it goes straight there!
I would also highly not recommend taxis. I've driven going north of Wimbledon at peak times, and it's not a nice drive. Stuck at endless amounts of traffic lights!0 -
I'm another one who would strongly recommend getting the tube. Also, I'd hope they will do the same as they do for the championships, namely have a special taxi service from Wimbledon station direct to the tennis - IIRC it was £2.50 a head last year. They just fill up the taxis and drop you at the main gate (or where ever the queue ends)
Extremely well organised for the championships, so just hope that the Olympic committee hasn't tried to interfere.
SPCome on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.0 -
Drove past Southfields train station today, they have a Taxi rank in Augustus Road (Next to station) and Olympic volunteers guiding walkers to Wimbledon.
Was not that busy at 1pm0
