Cost of taxi Victoria - Wimbledon

Hi all

We're going to the see the Tennis at Wimbledon but after a flight to gatwick, the gatwick express, and dropping bags off at the hotel, we don't fancy using the tube and walking to get to Wimbledon. We were wondering whether anyone has a rough idea of the price of a taxi to Wimbledon? Does anyone know if the price of taxis is increasing during the Olympics?

Thanks in advance

You can get an idea from this site but be warned, there are huge taxi queues at Victoria all the time and not all drivers are going to want to out to Wimbledon (I know they 'have to' but there isn't much you can do to make them). Just leave a lot of time

Depends on the time and day you are coming in as to exact fare but according to the taxi fare calculator it would cost about £23 for 9.30am in the morning (£25 weekends). This will be more costly when there is more traffic due to the olympics especially as cabs can't use the olympic routes as you may have seen on the news they were protesting about this recently.

I live in Zone two and I've never been charged as little as £23 on a trip from central London. Be prepared to pay a lot more than that.

It's a fair drive from Victoria especially if the Taxi driver does not know the short cuts (He probably won't). It will take the taxi about 45 minutes to get there.

You will probably need to use public transport on the way back.

Thanks for the advice and warnings. Our flight lands on Saturday morning at Gatwick at 8:30 am so I'm guessing we'll get to London Victoria 09:30-ish. I didn't realise some taxi drivers would decline that long a journey and they couldn't use the designated routes. Any ideas on the maximum it might cost us?

    I would guess £40+

Have you bought Gatwick Express tickets into London? Are you aware you can do the same route but take circa 10 minutes longer for a massively cheaper ticket price?

If you insist on a taxi, I'd be inclined to get a train from Victoria to Clapham Junction which is few minute journey then get a taxi from there. You've covered a lot of the route by then and the taxi's from their will take a much better route.

We have got Gatwick Express tickets and are staying near Victoria. In retrospect, we maybe should have stayed near Wimbolden and got a private car from Gatwick.

If you need to do a similar trip in future, use one of the train companies websites. An adult single on a normal train costs about £7 cheaper and takes about 32 minutes so only a few minutes more than Gatwick Express

If you've got tickets for Wimbledon then you'll have a travelcard as well? That gives you free tube travel to Wimbledon?

I would take the underground/overground to get to Wimbledon.
