although the smaller builder may care more,he also has to buy his products at a premium as he is not striking deals all the time as a major buyer.this in turn means he would buy a far less quality product to make it look like your getting a good deal..also,try getting these guys back to do remedial work when the problems start arising!!!!
i would go for a reputable company and get at least 3 quotes!!!!!!
both my neighbours had conservatories and windows fitted by a company proclad in newtownabbey..they were sitting in the conservatory in 8 weeks from start to finish and i seen little mess for such a big conservatory...must be 26ft by 14ft at least

Judging by deskhead141172's recent posts I think he is slightly Pro Proclad ;)

if you are not a great diy expert you could always project manage the job and employ local builders and fitters

LOL and have the missus blame me when it all goes pear shaped!!! We looked at B&Q's range they quoted much the same as the specialists. Main problem is our patio bit outside the patio doors where the conservatory is to go is level with the floors inside. Who ever is doing the base is going to have to break up the existing concrete, avoiding the sewer pipe that runs underneath it, dig down and then build it back up level. Everyone that's quoted so far has reckoned on about £3500 for the base so there's not a lot to save in buying the conservatory from b&q etc. and paying someone to put it up.
