has anyone posted a parcel to Shetland?

I sold an item yesterday , before the sale the customer rang me for advice about which to choose, I gave him all the info and he said ok I'll have that one , I thought great, an off ebay sale! (slapped wrist for me:p ), but he wouldn't entertain ordering on the phone, he said he preferred ebay, even when I said he could pay with paypal on our website if he wanted to.
I said fine and an hour later he bought a different , more expensive one from my ebay shop, anyway when I came home from work, I noticed that he had put a message on his paypal payment saying that it was urgently needed for a present (he told me on the phone it was for his son but never mentioned any urgency - if he had I would have given him a faster option).
Anyhoo, back to my question, does anyone know how long for standard parcels to Shetland? I cant find anything on the rm site, I just wonder whether they have a daily delivery by boat or only 3 times a week or something. most of my parcels arrive the next day but I don't think it will this time!

  • They go by plane and it should be there in the same time as anything else you send.

I believe that all Scottish Islands' mail goes to Glasgow and then on the plane from there (with any passengers).

It won't go by boat. :D

I used to have a penpal in the Shetlands. In those days Papa Stour only had 20 people living on it!
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

I imagined a little old man in a flat cap with a rowing boat!:rotfl:
much to my shame I have no idea of the size of Shetland, it cant be very big as the address was just the house name, town and postcode.
I wouldn't even try to pronounce the name of the house or the place!

Can just imagine the little old man in his flat cap almost sinking in his boat with all of the ebay parcels!

  • Mail's delivered to the main Scottish Islands by plane, and unless the item's gone awol in Royal Mail's system or there's really bad weather (which nothing can be done about anyway) the post to here gets delivered in the same timescale as to the UK mainland. When I use standard special delivery though they cover their back by saying it's guaranteed for 2 day delivery and not the 1 day it is on mainland uk. Rambling now, sorry! :)

I live on another Scottish Island and it does my head in when someone charges extra to send something up here on Royal mail cos its the same price as sending it to anywhere else in the UK! Sorry to rant, its just annoying!
