Mobility Travel Pass

I'm the carer for a disabled person claiming higher rate mobility component and higher rate care component for DLA.

I have recently applied for a mobility travel pass giving them free travel on local public transport.

I have been told by somebody else that if they get the travel pass then they will no longer get the higher rate mobility component as it means they are able to use public transport.

Could somebody please confirm or not whether this is the case?

No it's not, my son has had Higher Mobility since 2001 and also has a free buspass, our buses are (supposedly) wheelchair accessible so I can't see why there'd be any issue. :)

Thanks for your quick response Skins.

I didn't think it would be the case, and wonder whether the other person was deliberately scaremongering.

It would seem perverse if someone had to be on DLA to get a free bus pass, only to lose the DLA once they'd got it, but it was the fact that she is on the higher rate mobility component that worried me.

I may check with the local authority just to be sure.

I get HRM and have a bus pass. You don't get the HRM taken away if you choose to have the bus pass.

The only way you don't recieve the HRM is if you choose to go for a mobility car as then the payment of HRM goes to the mobility people for the car.

My son has a mobility car, paid for by his HRM. He also has a bus pass, which, in Merseyside, gives him free travel on buses, ferries and trains within the county.

It's not true, you can have both.
My hubby has a bus pass due to his epilepsy and has higer rate DLA due to his cancer, so don't worry.
Whoever told you that is having you on or is mistaken.
