For the record... and to update people on my life this week.... I am viewing a place tomorrow, to become a lodger. I deliberately didn't want to be a lodger in a family home - in my book that'd be worse than trying to share with a couple.0

Thanks again wotsthat, everything is rosy again.
It ain't all bad,sun is shining, and your loving being officially back in recession0 -
Another thread where Graham creates the OP and dictates where the discussion goes, by ruling out anything that does not agree with whatever VI he is pushing this time.
You're not allowed to discuss relative poverty between 1920 and now, you're not allowed to talk about RPI, you're not allowed to discuss coping tactic such as taking in lodgers. It makes you wonder why Graham doesn't just go into MS Word and typ his 'thoughts for the day' without any annoying retorts.
Remember guys, this is a Graham_Devon thread. Just agree with him (click 'thanks' - he likes them so much he created a sad 'thanks' puppet for it) and then move along to more fertile ground.0 -

Weren't you living with your elderly parents and looking after them at one point, or am I thinking of LiR?0 -
People are richer then ever, biggest adjustment maybe but its nowhere near as bad it could be
Just go back 20 years and the ninities was tougher on quite a few people0 -
What's the problem? I'm just asking if there's a credible measure by which we can say living standards are now as low as they were in the 1920's.
Is it just me who reads this as the biggest squeeze on living standards, hence the biggest drop. It doesn't say living standards are worse than the 1920s.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017
Quit day job to run 3 businesses 08/02/2017
Started third business 25/06/2016
Son born 13/09/2015
Started a second business 03/08/2013
Officially the owner of my own business since 13/01/20120 -

That was how I read the underlying statistics in the article, yes. However, the DM spin on it was rather different. There's a surprise.
It seems clear to me that the standard of living now is higher than in the 1920s, but that it might be falling at a faster rate than any time since the 1920s.0 -

People walking to work, kids walking to school, kids playing safely in the streets, low obesity levels, people knowing their neighbours, a greater sense of community, high streets consisting of more than betting offices and spray tanning joints.
Doesn't sound too bad.0
