First call

Following Martin's article on breakdown cover I decided to take out The first Call policy which is cheaper than most. I was about to buy the policy when I noticed that the total cost was £64. This included £32 Tax, with no explanation what the tax was for. I am familiar with Mr Brown's 5% insurance stealth tax but there was no explanation.
can anyone explain this.

£3.20 is 5% of £64.
Are you sure you aren't missing a decimal point somewhere.
It doesn't sound right at all.0 -

Hi lisyloo, I was trying to buy the £32 policy. This the UK policy with an agreement to £40 excess if use home start. It is in martin's article.

I went to apply and the screen came up like this
Basket Details: -
Quantity Product Price Each Tax Total
Remove Roadside Cover £ 32.00 Inclusive £ 32.00
Sub Total: £ 32.00
Delivery Cost: £ 0.00
Total Tax: £ 0.00
Total: £ 32.00
So no tax added.
Have you considered Autoaid?
It "pay and claim" so you need to pay for any repairs and claim back but you get roadside, recover, at home and onward travel for £32, which is much better cover.
Many people on this site have had very good claims experience although you would need a credit card to pay up front.
This covers all vehicles you drive/ride and a spouse if you are married.
No connection.0 -
I did consider Autoaid, we are going on holiday at Easter. Travelling to Manchester to fly out. The policy is to cover the drive to the airport from Glasgow.
Have managed to obtain cover from Green Flag. Recovery policy for £44 which is not too bad. Only covers me but not in a position to take a pay and claim policy at present. Hopefully next year.0 -
First call would probablt not cover you. READ POLICY carefully- they will taske you to a garage, home or onward destination-WHICHEVER is closer- a garage is closer and they wold not pay glasgow manchester any more than they would pay Wigan Dorset (220 miles each way).
I dumped first call the day after i called them out for the first time and was told they would not take us home the 220 miles (£450 pay out for them) but would put us up in a hotel and pay £100 car rental and a train fare back wehn we dropped off the car in Wigan -presumably we would also have to pay the extra monety for car rental as £100 would not last long enouhg for our car to get fixed by some unknown garage in wigan!! be very careful how the company words its policy.0
