These sort of threads always can be problematic, as one person's "not very nice place" is someone's best wee place in the world.

The old saying "Do not judge a book by its cover" comes to mind.

  • Newtownards is lovely with great schools, the Beverley area in particular is nice and peaceful, property there good value at the moment and when the recession is over they will get expensive again

Thanks everyone for the comments. Much appreciated. I will have a look at all the suggestions made.

The options we were considering so far are Banbridge, Markethill, Dromore, Lisburn, as these are all Areas we (roughly) know, and believe we could be comfortable in.

But I have now a few more leads that I can look into.

Someone mentioned auctions earlier and I noticed a sign on a house near me. Anyway if interested:

No idea if the price guidelines are realistic.

Good luck with the search - hope you find something you like.

PS - If you are looking for non protestant/non Catholic areas, its a good time to look - as the main protestant areas still have the 12th flags out! - The catholic ones aren't so noticeable though - some maybe have the gaelic flags flying (only if in Down though).
