Hi everyone, I am trying to go about reclaiming PPI i paid on my car loan to british credit trust it was combined with my monthly payment and i paid it from the begining of my loan in august 07 through to july 09 when realising that being self employed it was completely irrelevant and not applicable to me. I have contacted british credit trust today and they have advised they are going to order the paperwork from head office and send it to me as it is not on their system however they say that as they paid commision to a company called Blue Motor Finance Ltd for arranging the PPI i must claim it back from them. I am really confused however as i have never heard of this company or paid any monies to them i paid my ppi to british credit trust and from looking on line if i contact Blue Motor Finance they are likely to palm me off back to the car dealership i bought the car from who are now shut down. any advice woul;d be so greatfully appreciated. Many Thanks

A significant minority do not cover the self employed. Most do though. So, are you sure that yours did not cover you?I am really confused however as i have never heard of this company or paid any monies to them i paid my ppi to british credit trust and from looking on line if i contact Blue Motor Finance they are likely to palm me off back to the car dealership i bought the car from who are now shut down.
There is nothing wrong with having PPI. You are not complaining about the product. A complaint is about the sale or set up of the product. Therefore the seller of the PPI has the liability for the complaint and potential redress. That means the car dealer. A dealer would use a brokerage service if not tied to one of the main car firms.
So you complain to the dealer. If the dealer no longer exists and you bought the PPI in 2005 or later then you can refer your complaint to the FSCS. If it was before 2005 then it is game over apart from a limited number of options that may apply to a minority of cases.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thanks dunstonh, yes the policy specifically did not cover me being self employed which is why i cancelled it, i just didnt think at the time of cancelling about whether i was entitled to get what i had paid back. The broker is no longer trading so i have spoken to the FSCS and they are sending me out some claim forms.
Thank you very much for your help0
