Asked the builder as to how he would do it, if he takes the job, he said he would use PVA then tile over it, and he thinks that should enough for waterprooofing.
Oh dearie dearie me. PVA is glue. When PVA gets wet it goes live again. PVA only sits on the surfce and doesn't penetrate the substrate. PVA is not waterproof. Where do you find this clown? I hope that there is a proper written contract in place or tears will be the ultimate result. Benefit of the doubt on your side for the time being even though some posters are questioning
So it looks the shower walls have to tanked and will use a false wall, do you think cement board or plasterboard will be better as the 3rd wall for the shower.
No the walls should be tanked up to 1½ metres from the shower tray. Wheres the third wall suddenly come from? If you've already got plasterboarded and skimmed walls for two of them there is no advantge or benefit whatsoever in an alternate substrate on the third.

Did you hoist on board my observation about weight per sqm.

    Cheers

Much easier to clean than tiles.......
Sorry but I don't share that opinion tbh.
No grout lines to get mouldy.
Grout lines go mouldy becaue some cheap and nasty grout with no antimicrobial content was used in the furst place but its mainly because people are lazy and don't clean/dry the shower propely after use or can't be arsed to use the extract fan or get it repaired if its broken.

Practically your solution may have some merit but if the rest of the bathroom is being tiled then aesthetically its horrid. IMHO of course.

    Cheers

Polymer strands do get below the surface, that's how they work. I spent an absolute lifetime in paper living with that.

But, and you are right, they get reactivated as I said earlier, so are pretty much useless when you apply water back into the equation

But with all due respect not on a nicely polished plaster finish. It just peels off even when dry if it was put on too thick and presents as easily grabable.

Sorry hadn't spotted that you'd written that but that's good as we agree!. :D

glad i'm not the only one that thinks this is getting just a little bit silly, i'm not gonna bother replying to anymore of their threads it really is getting boring & they don't seem to take any notice of any of the advice or even bother replying & i can't see one thanx on anyones advice posts either, so best of luck with your non-english speaking builder who doesn't seem to have a clue as to what he's doing.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

By 'cleaning' in this context, I meant both the periodic clean with cleaning products, and the daily ritual of drying off after use.

Our daily regime revolves around squeegee-ing the water off the verticals and the raised edge of the shower tray, so that water doesn't lie on them.

A squeegee on tiles rides on the tile surface and misses the grout lines. With showerwall, it's all flat, so the squeegee gathers all.

Totally agree ! I've got Mermaid panels and two minutes with a squeegee and an e-cloth and it looks like new. Even more so if you have a softener.......
