Would you press the ‘cancel the Olympics’ button?

My heart sank when they announced the Olympics were going to London. Of course it was going to cost too much - always does. But then, when the 'we want the Olympics' bandwagon was started, the 'elite' thought money grew on trees, and their culture was that of self-aggrandisement.0

Not too keen on the Olympics itself, but thanks to an Olympics related competition a friend of mine won a flight from Canada to London, which is awesome considering the fact that she wanted to come but had to cancel before due to lack of funds.0

I find it funny on the poll that London pretty much want the Olympics, and the rest of the country aren't too bothered about it.0

Where's the button to click that says "Change the past so the French hold the Olympics in Paris."?
We could now be seeing how much it's costing them.
Their unions like to cause trouble too.
It's close enough that the real sport fans could visit, and probably would have been fairer on the ticket allocation too.0 -

That said I wish Team GB the best of luck and will absolutely be cheering them on.
Everything said here is 100% right on the nail, along with so many other comments about just how much it's all cost in these times of Austerity.
But I'm still looking forward to the 20+ channels of BBC TV coverage, so I can see the events which are never shown on prime-time or highlights. Even more, the C4 coverage of the Paralympics is just brilliant... when have we ever been able to see these great athletes perform before ???
I say "stop bl**dy moaning, and bring it on !!!!"0 -
I have zero interest in the Olympics. The MSE poll shows I'm not alone, in fact, I'm in the majority for a change!
My feelings are that the Games should return to its home, Greece. If ever a country needed to grasp tightly to its heritage, its Greece. They need a few decades of investment there in order to rebuild their economy, and this is one sure fire way to do it.
The Olympics has become a travelling business junket, bringing disruption, destruction, and disengagement at local & national level, and it encourages back handers and freebies for the crooked MP's and CEO's.
The Olympic spirit is dying, big businesses are killing the whole point of the games. It has become a status symbol to attend.
Well sorry, but I'm not jealous. I see the damage it causes.0 -
When it was first announced i was over the moon. But then... well you know, MASSIVELY overbudget!
Someone should be held accoutable for it, but no-one ever is. The people at the top can waste billions and nothing happens. It was so predictable it was going to be overbudget that it didn't come as much shock. If they wanted to set a good high for olympics they should have got it within budget and proved everyone wrong. They didn't so it obviously got a negative response from the start.0 -
So based on the votes cast so far, will some-one be sending Lord Coe a copy of our findings?0

Olympic athletes devote every waking minute to excellence in their discipline. Because their 'thing' happens to be athletics, why should they not be remunerated? Should all sportsmen be amateurs? Footballers, F1 drivers?
Perhaps bankers should only work for competitive glory?)
There have been many suggestions for the honour of lighting the beacon tonight, & I nominate Eddie the Eagle. His attitude towards his chosen sports dicipline is everything that should be encouraged in children today; try your best, but enjoy it most of all. Surely that is why the Games are held?

I am hearing people on my train into London every day STILL moaning about it this week. Get over it, it's happening. You can start moaning again when it's all over. Just accept that some of us are really excited about it and want to see London and GB as a whole put on a really good show. Please just give us TWO WEEKS to enjoy it without you all being total killjoys!! Is that too much to ask?!Will they be getting as much air time or recognition of sporting endevour? I know which Team I'd rather support.....

stupid poll,
why would you cancel something after billions has been spent, too late now
obviously leave the Olympics running now
if an option to cancel it was there originally before all the vast amount of money had been spent then that would be a reasonable option, but not now, that's like buying a brand new car then deciding you don't like it and sending it to the crusher, ridiculous0
