Housing benefit overpayment

Ive been overpaid housing benefit which I am in the process of making an arrangement to repay.

My council tax account however is in credit because we have recently moved. The credit is in cash not overpaid benefit.

Can the council use the credit on the council tax account to offset the overpayment on the housing benefit account or is it separate and do they have to refund it?

Thanks all

You can ask them to transfer it. That's what my la does as seems silly to pay out and then ask you to repay! It's done via an internal transfer in my office
I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.
