Help with HP Deskjet 2480 printer

My HP deskjet 2480 printer's old but works perfectly - or it did up until yesterday!
My 18 month old grandson was pressing the buttons on it, turning it on and off, and when I stopped him for the umpteenth time it was turned off.
Tried to turn it on this morning and I'm just getting the message that the device is disconnected.
It's plugged in, and all the wires are connected as they need to be...just not a flicker of life from the printer.
Any ideas, or is it a new printer? Thanks.
