Refunds with Amazon – am I right to be suspicious?

I have just had to do my first refund with Amazon – quite easy really.
Mind you the reason I have had to do it has puzzled me somewhat. I sold a book and posted it to the buyer within 48 hours of receiving notification of the sale. A few weeks later it was returned to me by the post office with a note on it saying ‘Addressee has gone away’. I immediately sent an email to the buyer to see if I can find out what had gone on. I never got a reply. So 10 days after sending the email (I thought this was long enough) I organised a refund.
What puzzles me is why would someone buy a book, pay for it, not receive it because they had ‘gone away’ from the address they had put down as their delivery address and not do anything about getting their money back? I am more than a little suspicious – am I right to be and should I be worried?

this happened to me a few years ago with a mobile phone i had sold on ebay
it was bought and paid for, sent by special delivery and returned the next day "addressee has gone away"
i'm so glad it was returned to me as the buyer/credit card holder had done a charge back0
