Brake fluid/clutch fluid interchangeable..?

Options
I drive a Hyundai Accent and felt the clutch pedal go soft on me for the first time today accompanied by difficulty in changing gears.

I'm hoping it's just a question of topping up the clutch fluid rather than anything more costly - but I can't check this properly until tomorrow. In the meantime I've checked the manual... and the section on clutch maintenance seems to use the terms 'clutch fluid' and 'brake fluid' without any distinction. Would this be a true take on matters or am I misreading it?

I've never heard it suggested that brake and clutch fluids are different - in fact the containers often [usually?] say " brake and clutch". My old 1958 MGA actually has a single fluid reservoir to supply both brakes and clutch --means that if you lose all the fluid then you lose the brakes and have to do a clutchless change down to slow the car [never happened yet in 29 years of ownership].

It should be the same fluid but there are some vehicles out there with hydraulic clutches that use a different type of hydraulic fluid for the clutch. I would check the owners handbook to see if it lists the specs of both fluids.
