Tarmac repairs

We have a tarmac drive that we paid a lot of money for. I believe we were overcharged at the time 2 yrs ago, but we accepted it. Now we've had a n extension built and the tarmac needs repairing all around it. We dont want to go with the original company for obvious reasons but tarmac companies are very thin on the ground in our area. We've only found one other company advertising and unfortunately they failed to turn up today to give a quote. Does anyone know of a fair priced, reliable company in Warrington/ Widnes area? Some big companies wont do small repairs.

If its only small areas around the side or small potholes, just but cold lay tarmac (sometimes called cold lay asphalt) by the bag (google it!) Its dead easy (if a bit messy) and will save you a fortune in getting someone in.

Does it have to be a tarmac repair, could you create a feature band with block paving, gravel etc. The patch will always be very visible.
How do you know if you were overcharged originally, where we lived initially there was one firm who was always more expensive, but you could see the differnce in the quality of the finish immediately and after 2-3 years you could really see the difference to others who had used cheaper suppliers.
If it has to be tarmac the instamac option is ok temporary but its hard work to get a good result unless you know how to use it and have the equipment to compact it.

Thanks folks. We're not going for the DIY option because neither of us are spring chickens now. The original company are renowned for their high prices and to be fair, they do good work, but I wouldn'tsay its outstanding. We have now got another guy coming this evening, so, hopefully, he'll turn up.
