Thank you.
Current situation is joint owners on a house we bought in December. Equity in house was my husband's.
I own a one bed flat in my name which is in negative equity. I'd love to think we could live there but it's very very small.
Just got more complicated, huh?!
I don't claim any benefits at all.
My situation was the other way round. My first wife and I split, she stayed in the house (no kids) and paid the mortgage out of her income. I signed the house over to her which I thought was fair (she paying the mortgage etc). We had the house valued when I signed the deed (total of £162,000 equity) and she agreed to pay me one half when she eventually sold it. Any further increase in equity over that value she could keep.
I moved away (300+ miles away!) and never saw her or heard from her again. Eventually some 10 years later I heard that she had remarried and moved. Eventually I found out that she had sold our old joint home and pocketed a total of £270,000 equity - £81,000 of which was mine.
She refused to hand it over and denied that we ever had such an agreement!!!

I'm very grateful for your kind help.
I really hope my husband and I can work things out. I didn't get married to break up
At least I am a little clearer on where I might be financially should that happen.
Let's hope not, eh.
Thanks again.0 -
I would work more, but having looked into it, it would mean I net about an extra 50 pounds per day. I am reluctant to put my son into nursery (no offence to anyone that does, but I look other people's children all day as a teacher and I want to be with my son as much as I can afford to!)
Another typical teacher - I also look after other people's children in a children's home - full time - and would love to be at home with my children but guess what- I have to work to pay my bills. And you are complaining about taking in an extra £50 a day? Some parents work full time only taking in £50 a day net. Get a life. You can't have your cake and eat it.0
