Travel Insurance renewal question

This is probably a very dense question but I will ask it anyway!

I took out annual travel insurance with company A last September (2011). I booked a family holiday in March 2012 to be taken in October 2012.

So, my travel insurance will be up for renewal before I travel. Will I only be insured (for cancellation etc) if I renew with the company I was with when booking the holiday (Company A), or am I free to renew with any travel insurer?

You would be covered with whichever company you go with.

The only complication you would have by switching insurers is if you started feeling ill before the old policy lapses and after you've bought the new one you get a diagnosis for a condition that means you cant travel. The new insurer would say it was preexisting because you were ill before buying their policy and the old insurer would probably argue the instruction not to travel has happened after their period of cover ended.
