Hello.

I received a charge for £90 (or £60 if paid within 14 days) from UKPC in Belfast. (edit - for 'parking on the roadway')

It was a very busy, free car park and my husband erroneously parked at the end of the bay (other cars do this all the time, we didn't realise it was illegal as it doesn't cause blockages, plus we couldn't see any obvious signs warning not to) He was away 10 mins and came back to the ticket.

Of course, when we returned yesterday we did see the signs once we were looking for them, but in a busy car park you're concentrating on finding a space, not looking for signs!

I see the general consensus is to ignore this company. However, Martin says in the site :

"Of course, landowners have a right to charge for and police proper parking. If you've broken those rules, and you think the ticket isn't exorbitant, I'd urge you to pay up."

I realise the rules were broken now, after the fact. Yet on the other hand, £60/£90 for a mistake seems a bit of a joke considering it's a free car park!

My DH is worried they will identify him from the CCTV and take him to court.

Bearing in mind the advice Martin has given, do you still think it is wise to ignore?

While they won't do it, how would a PPC identify someone from a CCTV photo ? If I showed you a picture of someone would you be able to identify them given there are 65 million plus people in the UK ?

Martin's advice is considered out of date. Best action is to ignore them. They've lost nothing so you owe them nothing.

UKPC dont do court, in fact the last time they were in court they were the defendants in the crown court!

    So just carry on ignoring
    For everthing else there's mastercard.

They will not identify your husband from CCTV, as far as I know there is no massive database of people's faces that they can refer it against - that's why Crimewatch is so popular on the telly!

Breaking rules is one thing - you haven't broken any laws by the way, so you've done nothing 'illegal' - the real question is 'has the landowner suffered any kind of financial loss as a result?'

The answer, I suspect, is 'no'. And the fee IS exorbitant.

They will identify the registered keeper through the registration number, but it doesn't make their ticket any more enforceable than it already is, which is 'not a lot'.

In fact, its not legally enforceable at all.

You ought to ignore it completely.

UKPC don't do court, but I'd be amazed if any English based PPC would be willing to take a flight over to NI.

Can the PPCs still purchase data from the NI's version of the DVLA?
  • Hi Bettybelle, exactly same thing happened to me, I contacted psni who advised me to study the details very carefully. Foolishly I did appeal, but haven't heard anything from them, but I didn't give my address details. I asked for help via the Northern Ireland forum. I'm sitting it out and waiting. good luck

Can't see them paying for flights/ferry and hotel over there on the hope of winning a couple of hundred maximum.
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?
