Can anyone tell me one is better than the other?

It depends on which features are of particular interest to you.... HBOS have only one ultimate reward account, whereas RBS offers a variety of Royalties accounts dependant on your needs.

I would say the HBOS one matches the RBS Royalties Gold most closely - price difference is £2 per month cheaper with HBOS.....

I believe there is a link on the Halifax/Bank of Scotland website which lets you put in the costs of each relevant perk to see if the account is suitable for you.

Thanks I`ve seen this - does anyone know what discounts you get with their HBS "discount booklet"

If you ask in a branch they should have a list - from memory it includes things like discounts for airport departure lounges, holidays and certain hotel groups. Can't remember the other things off-hand - think there may be a discount if you buy your car through a group called freeway (?)....
