Hi. I currently have an MBNA United Airlines Amex card. I have been using it for a number of years to collect star alliance points to boost my points earnt on flights. It has taken an age, but I now have enough points to redeem for two business class flights to America for me and Mrs MikeTaff. The card will then be redundant, as it will take too long to save up for more free flights.
I am looking to take out an Amex platinum cashback card as the cashback rates seem quite good. I don't think I would spend enough per annum to make the Capital One Aspire Elite worthwhile.
My question is (finally) thus:
Will Amex allow me to have a platinum cashback card whilst still having the MBNA United Airlines one?????
If I obtained the platinum I would probably close the MBNA one to be honest, but I don't want to close the account beforehand unless I knew I was going to definitely get the platinum!

One is an MBNA card & 2nd is issued by America Express, the fact that they are both AMEX cards shouldn't be relevant. Only question will be if you meet American Express credit scoring requirements for the Platinum.0

Above but also Amex don't really care if you have more than one card. I have the nectar credit card and the gold charge card.0

You can certainly have multiple cards irrespective of the issuer.
With certain introductory offers (eg Platinum Card (Chargecard) 40,000 bonus points) you are limited to being a "new new" customer but this is normally around the reward points offers0 -
You can although i think its one charge card and one cc with amex direct0

Amex dont seen to mind multiple cards the maximum credit limit across all the accounts does seem to be important. I had a Corporate card, platinum cashback card and nectar credit. When I cancelled the platinum card I was allowed to move its credit limit to the Nectar.
Customer services are the best and most helpful of any card firm I have had cause to deal with.

Application went through fine. Be interesting to see what credit limit I will get as I have a limit of 11k MBNA amex.
And Mrs MikeTaff will be happy as well as she will be getting one of those infernal Meerkats.0 -
Yes, I have their Platinum cashback credit card, and applied for their charge card some time later.
If you're still after free flights, may be worth looking at their BA card, and collecting Avios points, which you can also collect with buying fuel from Shell and shopping at Tesco.0
