Can somebody recommend a good but not extremely expensive SatNav System including the main benefits of it. I am sure that there are many of you out there using them so I am sure you will be able to recommend one from your experience. For a novice it is very difficult to decide on one as there are so many out there with loads of extra gadgets.
Thanks you.

As with many techno gadgets they're creeping down in cost.

I reccommend Tomom one version two, UK regional version. Mine was £160 but I have seen a thread where they're just over £140 or so.

Review here from PGS world (a good site to look at)

I've been using one for 3 months now.

Its a doddle to use and you don't end up messing with it as you drive. The screen is bright even in sunshine. The standard voice is reasonable. It works.

The USB charger is flddly and doesnt seem all that secure. Since upgrading the software is seems slow to get a GPS fix. The screen mount kit is basic.

The maps are already out of date and I don't think you get an automatic upgrade which would have been nice.

I would want an SD slot for viewing photos and playing MP3s if I bought another.

I have a (compatible!!! see list) orange bluetooth phone and can receive real time traffic alerts of jams and accidents. This cost an extra EU50 and included fixed speed camera locations.

I had 2 asda eveshams that went wrong but while they worked they were good but not as good as the TomTom.

I have the tomtom go910 and it's been the best money ever spent, I do a lot of motorway driving and when there have been jams on the road my tomtom just diverts me via another route, it's really easy and simple to use but sometimes the camera info is missing or wrong. I don't go anywhere without it now

I got mine from totalpda, they also sell recon units

poe.tuesday is refering to the tom tom traffic feature where it downloads trafic information over the internet or by mobile phone and offers alternative routes that are quicker as it takes in to account the delays from the traffic problems. It is very good.

Tom Tom all the way dont bother with any other system. it is possible to get tom tom on a mobile phone if you really want it cheap the software can be *cough downloaded as can the maps the only thing you need to buy is a memory card and a gps receiver total cost about £50 if you have the phone already that is. or get your phone provider to give you a PDA based phone like the orange SPV's or Tmobile mda o2 XDA's that how I do it anyway.

Just got a Navman F20. Does everyting you could ever want a SatNav to do, except Traffic (needs an addon for about £60, but its free sub for life). From Curry's, with a 5% off code, its only £113. Dead easy to use and big 3.5" screen and quick lock on.
