After the Olympics

On that Twenty Twelve satirical show the head of legacy was seen visiting Dagenham and Redbridge to discuss leasing the Olympic stadium to them!
Pure parody or unerringly accurate vision of events to come...?
Actually Leyton Orient are one of the bidders! So it could happen that way.0 -

Good question, what's the answer? Apparently there are 14,000 athletes and if each of these has on average 100 organisers, supporters and hangers on, that suggests that accomodation for between 1 and 2 million people will be freed up over the next 6 months.0 -
Shortly after the Olympics it will feel like the major road routes in the Capital have suddenly sprouted an extra lane. Traffic will almost feel like its flowing.
Suddenly, gas repair men; plumbers and electricians won't be making "lame excuses" for not coming to fix your pipes/boiler/wiring in your chic London abode.
Something to look forward to

good answer - thanks for confirming that this is a joke thread and you don't believe there will be any impact.0 -

I really hope this is the case as what the Olympics did for Barcelona was really good but I don't think London has made enough changes to go down the same path
They haven't it's true, other than in Stratford. But then arguably they don't need to. Barcelona was a bit of a backwater, whereas London is already one of three cities in the world in the tourism champions league for attractions, amenities, and iconic status. What it hopefully will do is give London a new kick-start in the tourism stakes, and also if all goes well (everything crossed) improve the UK's visibility and world standing.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. West Ham will definitely fill it. Definitely. It's not like their season tickets went on general sale or anything.
:rotfl:
At Upton Park West Ham ration tickets by price. At Stratford they would not need to to do that for most matches, and with sensible prices and a decent performance from the team (!) it would definitely be viable. This is especially in view of the excellent accessibility and transport for Stratford, which for Upton Park is diabolical.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. That unemployment chart looks scary. Are things really that bad? I thought because of the Olympics everything is picking up around London. Hotels restaurants everything, what will happen after the Olympics and everyone goes home? Then all the temp staff involved with the games and security all join the dole lines?
Everything in London is artificial higher than it should be without the games, what will happen when everyone goes back home to their countries and all the staff are all laid off all at the same time.
What will happen to all the businesses who are only doing well because of the games? Will they all have to let staff go when its all over?House Prices 2007/08 £200K, Silver £5oz
Ratio 40,000 oz to 1 house.
2012 Fallen to £160K, Silver risen to £20 per ounce. So house/silver ratio fallen to 8000.
Prediction for the end of the decade, will keep falling at current rate until 1000 oz or less valued same as average house.0 -
Sounds like the stupid Olympic Stadium
What a dimwitted idea to design a stadium costing over £500,000,000, that can be partially dismantled afterwards, without any clear idea what to do with the bits removed, let alone the bit left behind.
One thing that's missing in this is that we didn't previously have a world-class athletics facility in this country. We'll now have a stadium where the best in the world want to appear. I'm an athletics fan. If you look at Crystal Palace its a joke - worse than some high school facilities in the US as well as being the pits to get to. Other track facilities in the UK are not a lot better. To get the big meetings and the top athletes along we need a decent stadium. Athletics has a good following in this country and people will attend. There can be no doubt that the UK will bid for major meets following the games and, IIRC has already won some major events. Athletics fans have been promised this for a long time and were royally stitched up over the building of Wembley where the track was taken out.
I want to not only attend the athletics events at the Olympics (which are bl**dy hard to get tickets to though we've got one pair), I want to see top class Diamond League meets, world and european championships. The stadium will give me the chance to do that. Meanwhile it can be anchored by a football club and achieve other revenue from events such as concerts. Seeing value from the stadium involves not only thinking of it as a home to West Ham, but as a multi-use space. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? For the past 5 years London has seen a huge influx of people to support planning, organising and construction for the London 2012 games. 7 million tickets have gone on sale and 204 countries are competing. From each country there will be athletes, trainers, medics, team mangers, reporters, camera crews, translators and supporters.
What happens to London property when this caravan leaves town?
Hope more good things...
I knew that area before all this kicked off, it was amazing that such a huge area of London was just sitting there doing nothing. The area was a dump, the ground was contaminated, yet the potential has always been huge.
When the Olympics is done the clean up of that area will now kick start the regeneration of the 100's of acres that are still available to build on, business and residential.
The story has not finished yet, and as a reminder before I head down to London on friday I am going to watch the old classic from years ago .. The Long Good Friday.. the first time I heard in a flim or news clip where that area was going to be turned into an Olympic park:)0
