For the past 5 years London has seen a huge influx of people to support planning, organising and construction for the London 2012 games. 7 million tickets have gone on sale and 204 countries are competing. From each country there will be athletes, trainers, medics, team mangers, reporters, camera crews, translators and supporters.

Those who bought in "up and coming" Stratford will probably feel rather foolish.
Other than that, I don't think much will change. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -
Couldn't you just post this in the other silly thread on this subject that is already going rather than start another thread exactly he same as the other one?0

London will be left with a lasting legacy of improved infrastructure, roads, sports facilities, you name it. The Olympics will have earned Britain a massive net return on the expenditure, so vast we shall have an almost embarassing nil-debt economy.
Just like it did for Greece - ha haThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Wouldn't people be more likely to stay in temporary accomodation rather than buying houses?
I had tickets to a concert in Stockholm but didn't feel that I needed to buy a house there.0 -
In some cities like Montreal the olympics had a negative legacy. In others like Barcelona it was the making of them, and catapulted them into the tourism premier league. London is already in that league but hopefully this will enhance its position, as well as reinvigorating British sport.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

It's funny how people underestimate the impact of infrastructure and iconic spaces, unless they have been here a long time already.
Think Paris, think Eifle Tower - yet when it was being built it had many critics saying it was a ghastly waste of time.0 -

Think London, think Dome.
Point being, some things are successful, some things are not. I don't think any olympic architecture will bring in revenue for years to come. At the end of the day, it's nothing unique or special.0 -

The Dome actually has turned out to be pretty succesful now, though. Hasn't really regenerated the area that much though, a lot is still wasteland.0 -

Of course, you have to pray the Jubilee line is working when you go but other than that..Go round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0 -

I'd imagine the acoustics are great in there because all the sound waves would pass through the walls rather than be reflected back as an echo.
I refuse to go to concerts at the MEN Arena because the sound quality is so poor.0
