Paypal Money Taken From Account, Moved To A Barclays Account

Hi there,
Looking for some help/advice.
I have a Paypal account, and I saw I had emails today stating that I'd just added a new bank account (I hadn't), and then another to say I'd confirmed it (I hadn't), and then another saying I've requested to withdraw money from my account to the new bank account.
The bank account was a Barclays account and it said the name on the account was the same as my name, which is a little worrying.
I disputed the transaction so its been cancelled and have changed Paypal login details.
Wondering what else I can do - should I contact Barclays regarding the account that was opened? Or the police? I have the sort code, account name and about 4 digits of the account number.
Would really appreciate any advice...
Thanks

It looks as though someone has gained access to your PayPal account. And although you've now thwarted that attempt, you might perhaps ask yourself what other personal information they have (given they opened a bank account in your name).
I suggest you access you credit files with Experian, Equifax, and CallCredit (Noddle) to look for any other dodgy activity.
You could try contacting Barclays about the account set up in your name, but I suspect they'll hide behind data protection.Optimists see a glass half full

Thanks very much pvt.
Do you think I should contact the police also? I'm slightly concerned, as you say, about what other info they may have, or what else they may try. I did contact Barclays fraud department but they said it was Paypal's problem, not theirs. I explained that someone opened an account in my name to try and take my money from Paypal but they just suggested I called into a local branch to talk about it, which I will.
Any other suggestions would be great, not sure what else I can do to protect myself apart from the credit checks. To clarify, are you suggesting that I run credit checks through every one of those companies, or just 1? Also, does it damage/affect my rating by carrying out a check? (obviously damage limitation in my case anyway..)

You want to obtain the information the Credit Agencies hold about you. See http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/credit-rating-credit-score/#trick
for some ideas on getting paid for doing it - - but you might have to pay, since you want to check several times in the next 2-3 months. Credit agency data only gets updated now and then, and a different times from different organisations.
Your checking of your own records doesn't affect your rating at all. None of the companies will know how often you checked your credit records.
