gas bbq on decking

I have just ordered a lovely new gas bbq with the intention of a bit of outdoor entertaining. At the back of our house we have a huge decked area with doors off to the kitchen, lounge and garage room.
My question is, is it the done thing to use a gas bbq on decking or is it dangerous? Are there regulations as to how far away from windows/doors they have to be?
It is obviously the most convenient area to have it, being near the kitchen and with their being table and chairs etc. Also, because it is flat which is more than can be said for the the rest of the garden which we would have to go down stairs to, the decking being elevated.
I will keep a bucket of water/sand by the side of it and am aware of the need to keep away from tall plants etc.

I don't know of any regulations.
Here is a link to fire service safety guidance.

The only regulations that could possibly apply would be the ones pertaining to the siting of the gas cylinder, near untrapped drains, opening windows etc etc, but in reality no one would bother with a BBQ.0

This has a mention on gas BBQs:

Just be sensible like you would any with any fire, keep the area well ventilated, and make sure that the gas bottle is kept out of direct sunlight and switched off at the canister/ bottle when not in use as well as the BBQ.0 -
Out of politeness I always just tell my immediate neighbours I'm having a BBQ as its horrible to not realise and then the smell comes into all the rooms with open windows... at least I give them the option to close theirs if the want to..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
