Hi all,
I've recently bought a Nintendo 3DS when I was in NY, USA, and was not able to bring it back with me due to exceeding my luggage limit. I was just wondering, if I can get my family from New York to send it to me via Post to London, UK, without me having to pay any import TAX duties or anything? Surely the Tax applies if I'm buying things from abroad not sending?
If there are any other sending methods then please let me know
Thanks in advance!

Tax and duties applies on anything posted into the country, new or used (the amount varies per product, and is very complex in terms of duties, but the VAT is 20% if applicable).
Mis-declaring values on inbound shipments is a risk you can take, but if caught they can get very difficult - assessing in full can be expensive.
I'm a little confused why you didn't take it in hand luggage given its size...0 -
Im also pretty sure even if you would have taken in hand luggage you are technically importing so should be 'declaring' it at customs0

I prefer to take the box and everything with me incase I decide to sell it on, that's why it was a stupid decision not to bring it xD
But if I had bought it, should I not only receive a charge for shipping? I mean it's not like I ordered it into the UK from an online store, rather sending an item I own and have already paid for, into the UK?0 -
You are importing goods, you pay duty and VAT (plus some handling charges). Makes no difference how or even if you paid for them. I assume you are hoping that as you paid sales tax in USA you are exempt from EU taxes - no, in a word. In fact once you pay those taxes, it may actually work out more expensive than your family selling it and you buying a new one here.0
