I'm currently applying for a UK passport, and I am going to submit my application via post. As I am in no rush for the passport and I wish to know what is the most cost effective way of applying for a passport and how much do they cost.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Im sure someone will correct me but I think £66 via post is your cheapest option.0

My advice is get yourself an irish one-we recently renewed our daughters uk one and it was going to cost a fortune! So when i was advised to look into the cost of an irish passport i was plesantly surprised at how much cheaper they are-not to mention how simple the form is to fill in compared to the uk one-no silly certified back of passport pic and DONT no matter what sign anything outside the white edges or the world will end rubbish!- so i am in the process of replacing ours with irish ones!!
Abit late now you've already applied but for anyone else reading who might need one in the future ( northern ireland is in the position of being allowed to hold both irish and uk passports at the same time) a quick phonecall to the irish passport agency and we had the application form the next morning!!
Just thought id share my thoughts!

How much is the Irish passport?0

You can apply for a Uk passport online, they send out the application form to get certified and add a pic and signature and then you send it back with your payment - means there are fewer mistakes unless you type in the wrong details. It is £66 just now but this is expected to increase when they bring in the interviews for first time applicants."Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

To be frank I dont think there is a big difference in price between Irish and British passports although I could be wrong.0

Yes you need to have Irish parentage/live in Northern Irealand to get an Irish passport.
The costs are IRISH PASSPORT
standard 10yr adult passport=75 euros (approx £50)
child under 3 passport valid for 3yrs =15 euros (approx £10)
child aged 3-17yrs valid for 5yrs =25 euros (approx £16)
UK PASSPORT
adult £66
childs £45
renewal/amendment £66
Ok the saving isnt huge on the adults but the childrens one is quite a difference and for those of us with more than one child needing a passport its a considerable saving!!
Dont get me wrong here im not being political or anything haha im just trying to save anyone from northern ireland looking for a passport a few pounds!!it takes more energy

A few more points on the UK vs. Irish passport.
The Irish passport is FREE to senior citizens (over 65) while the UK passport fee is only waived (bizarrely) if you were 16 years or older at the end of WW2!
In addition to the already mentioned, you have automatic Irish citizenship if a grandparent was born in Ireland or you are married to an Irish citizen (i.e. person with parent or grandparent born in Ireland). This makes them very popular for Americans not wishing to travel on a US passport these days...
You need to send your full birth certificate AND your Irish parent/grandparent's full BC on application.
I discovered all this as my Father born in Kilkenny was refused a British passport as he hadn't filled in the box for his parent's details, despite it being a passport renewal of a British passport (he served in the British army for 23 years.) We jokingly looked at applying for an Irish passport instead and discovered that he can get it for free amd that the whole family are technically Irish citizens.0
